MS Walk
The 20th annual Meyers Norris Penny MS Walk takes place at Bower Ponds in Red Deer on May 30. Registration and breakfast starts at 7:45 a.m. while the walk kicks off at 9 a.m. The three routes include the Pond Loop (1.4 km), the Nature Loop (seven km) and the Ranch Loop (7.5 km). The walk is the largest fundraising event for the MS Society of Canada. The Central Alberta Chapter hopes to raise more than $200,000 at this year’s event.
Safety day
Rocky Mountain House celebrates its fifth annual Community Safety Day on May 27. The event, which runs from noon to 7 p.m. at the Voyageur Arena, features activities, games, giveaways, door prizes, a barbecue, face-painting and more. For more information, visit www.safetyday.ca
Walk for friendship
Central Albertans are invited to raise money and awareness for the Red Deer Native Friendship Centre during its first annual Walk for Friendship on Tuesday, June 1. The friendship centre will kick off the two-km walk at its offices at 200, 5404 50th Ave. in Red Deer and will conclude at Rotary Park, where a charity barbecue will be held. Registration begins at 3:30 p.m. Pledge sheets can be found on the website at ww.rdnfs.com or at the office. There is no registration fee. The fundraiser will raise awareness of the centre’s services, improve aboriginal and non-aboriginal relations in the community, and the proceeds will help youth attend an Elders and Youth Gathering. All 20 friendship centres across Alberta will participate in the first annual Alberta Native Friendship Centres Association, Walk for Friendship, that day.
