A traditional Scandinavian celebration will come to Red Deer on Sunday, Dec. 11. Red Deer Vasa (Swedish) Lodge No. 733 invites everyone to celebrate Santa Lucia. It’s the church feast day dedicated to St. Lucy and is observed on Dec. 13. In traditional celebrations, Saint Lucy comes as a young woman with lights and sweets. In some forms, a procession is headed by one girl wearing a crown of candles (or lights), while others in the procession hold only a single candle each. The upcoming celebration starts at 2:30 p.m. at the Chalet at Westerner Park. A short program, including a candlelight procession, will be followed by coffee and Swedish treats.
