Have some good soup and good company for a good cause. Red Deerians are invited to come out to the United Way Benefit Soup Luncheon on Wednesday. It runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The HUB on Ross St. If you wish to make soup or donate buns, beverages or cookies, call Bev at 403-340-4896. The event is sponsored by supporters of The HUB at 4936 Ross St.


The Sky Family’s Celtic Revival from Prince Edward Island is coming to Bentley on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Blindman Valley Agricultural Centre. Each of the high-energy Celtic dance and gospel performers play instruments, sing and dance. The revival is a blend of fiddling, Irish step dancing and comedy skits suitable for the entire family. GrammaLink-Africa’s Scrabble event and the Chili Luncheon were successes with the Red Deer community last month. The group raised $7,086 at the Scrabble event. The Pottery Club donated 125 bowls and helped raise $2,500 during the chili luncheon. GrammaLink will use the money to help African grandmothers raise orphans through the Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign, a project of the Stephen Lewis Foundation.
