Christmas Bureau starts
The Red Deer Christmas Bureau is ramping up for another season of festive caring. The bureau, which has been helping local families for 49 years, will be accepting applications (in person) from families in Red Deer and Springbrook starting on Monday and continuing until Dec. 17. Those seeking Christmas-related assistance should go to the bureau’s toy depot at Bay 10, 7429 49th Ave. (across from the north Cosmos Bottle Depot), Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Proof of income and Alberta health care cards are required. The toy depot is now open to accept donations and Christmas bureau toy boxes and cash cans can be found in Red Deer malls, schools and businesses. For more information, call 403-347-2210.
Spare change for MS
It’s time to crack open your piggy banks and dig deep into your pockets to collect all of your spare change for a special event happening on Nov. 18 and 19. As part of the Coins to End MS event, people are invited to bring cans, bottles and jars of coins into any RBC and BMO Bank Branch in Red Deer. Money raised will go to the MS Society, Central Alberta Chapter, with all of the funds raised going to multiple sclerosis research. For more information, call 403-346-0290.
What a girl wants
The Central Alberta Women’s Emergency Shelter will benefit from a champagne breakfast and fashion show. The event called What a Girl Wants is on Nov. 19 from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. in Bower Place Shopping Centre food court. Tickets are $35 each or four for $125. For more information, call 403-597-4142.
