A popular British author and a Canadian Christian singer-songwriter are promising audiences a wonderful evening’s entertainment on Halloween Saturday in Sylvan Lake. Adrian Plass, who’s written 30 best-selling books, including The Sacred Diary of Adrian Plass, a gentle satire on the modern church, will tell stories, read poems and enact skits at 8 p.m. at the Alliance Community Church in Sylvan Lake, 4404 47th Ave. Ontario singer-songwriter Glen Soderholm will perform some of the folk and contemporary Christian songs he’s recorded on five albums. The two entertainers will also bring information on the World Vision charity and provide audience members with opportunities to support a child from the Third World. Tickets are $15 in advance from Scott’s Parables in Gasoline Alley or the church, or $18 at the door. For more information, call 403-887-8811.

Turn back your clocks

People can get an extra hour’s sleep this weekend as we fall back to standard time. Before going to bed on Halloween night, residents can turn their clocks back one hour. Meanwhile, provincial fire commissioner Trent West is reminding residents to change out the batteries on their smoke alarms in the semi-annual effort intended to save lives. “The key to surviving a home fire is to have operational smoke alarms combined with a well practiced escape plan,” West says.
