Monte Carlo evening
The Rotary Club of Red Deer Sunrise will present the seventh annual Evening in Monte Carlo dinner on Saturday, Sept. 25, at the Capri Trade, Hotel and Convention Centre in Red Deer. The event starts with a champagne reception at 6 p.m., followed by a gourmet dinner at 7. Tickets will be $175 each, which will be eligible for a $100 tax receipt. A corporate table will cost $1,400. The event will include a fun money casino, live auction and silent auction. Proceeds go to Family Services of Central Alberta. Blackfalds field house
The Town of Blackfalds is seeking community input on its future field house. An open house is scheduled for Thursday so the community, surrounding residents and stakeholder groups can have a look at and comment on the Blackfalds Field House Business Plan and Renderings draft document. Alzheimer’s speaker
Edmonton author Caterina Edwards, whose family had moved to Alberta from England when she was still a child, has watched her mother disappear before her eyes. In her book, Finding Rosa: A Mother with Alzheimer’s; A Daughter in search of the past, Edwards explores her family’s history, including ethnic cleansing in Croatia, as her mother slowly slides into the dementia brought on by Alzheimer’s disease. Edwards will talk about her experiences and her book as keynote speaker at the Dementia and Emotional Memory Workshop set for Friday Sept. 24, from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Masterpiece Inglewood, 10 Inglewood Drive in Red Deer. People are advised to book ahead. The fee is $25 per person.
