John Stuart’s accuracy with a five-iron paid off big time at the 48th Annual Kiwanis Golf Tournament. Stuart nailed a hole-in-one on the 186-yard 14th hole at Sylvan Lake Golf Course at the tournament held on Aug. 24. The shot was worth $10,000, thanks to hole sponsor Co-operators Insurance. This is the third hole-in-one in the history of the tournament.


Coffee Break fundraiser for Alzheimer’s

Alzheimer Society of Central Alberta will launch its annual Coffee Break fundraising program with an open house on Wednesday to recognize World Alzheimer Day. People are invited to the society’s office, at 101 4728 Ross St., for a snack and to learn how to host Coffee Break events to fund local Alzheimer programs for people with the disease and their caregivers. Coffee Breaks, large or small, can be and held in the community, workplace or at home. Currently, one in 11 Canadians over 65 has Alzheimer’s disease or dementia. Scholarship advice

Students and parents looking for some tips on finding scholarships can get some advice at upcoming information sessions. Information will be provided on what scholarships are available and how to go about applying for them. Sept 20 event will be at Lindsay Thurber Comprehensive High School from 7 to 9 p.m. On Sept 28 Hunting Hills High School is hosting a scholarship information night in its humanities cathedral from 7 to 8 p.m.
