Publisher turns umpire
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Red Deer will challenge local media to a slow-pitch game today at 6:30 p.m. at Great Chief Park. The game, umpired by Red Deer Advocate publisher Fred Gorman, is a fun event meant to raise awareness about the need for mentors for youth in Red Deer. About 30 young people are waiting for a Big Brother or Big Sister. Entrance to the game is free but concession proceeds go to support the United Way’s campaign. For further information about Big Brothers and Sisters, contact Janessa McCormack at the Youth and Volunteer Centre at 403-342-6500.
