Draft Horse classic
The Central Alberta Draft Horse Classic will run from Saturday to Monday, July 5, at the Olds Agricultural Society Fair Grounds. Nearly 200 Belgian, Percheron, shire and Clydesdale horses are expected to roll into Olds for the big event. Also, 10 of North America’s top six-horse hitches will be competing at the grounds. Other features include mini horse chuckwagon races, stock dog competitions, equestrian vaulting demonstrations and a Kid’s Zone filled with activities for children. Nominations for the 2010 Stars of Alberta Volunteer Awards are now being accepted. Any Albertan whose volunteer efforts have played a significant role during their lifetime is eligible. The Stars of Alberta Volunteer Awards recognize extraordinary Albertans whose volunteer efforts have contributed to the well-being of their community and fellow community members. More information and nomination forms are available online by searching for Stars of Alberta Volunteer Awards at www.alberta.ca. The nomination deadline is Friday, Sept. 24. Six awards are presented annually, two in each category of youth, adult and senior.
Summer jobs available
Do you need help finding a summer job? Attend the Service Canada Centre for Youth barbecue to learn about the services they offer and how they can help you land a job. The luncheon will take place July 9 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. outside Potter’s Hands, located at 4935-51 Street in downtown Red Deer. Burger combos including chips and a drink will be available for $5. The Service Canada Centre for the Youth is located on the second floor of 4911-51 Street.
