A Hunting Hills High School math teacher problem solved her way to the top of the class.

Shari Jensen was given the nod for the 2013 Excellence in Teaching awards. Jensen was one of the 20 recipients, made up of teachers and principals across Alberta, announced on Tuesday.

The recipients will be honoured on Saturday at an award celebration in Edmonton.

The recipients will receive up to $4,000 each for professional development.

Excellence in Teaching award nominees are required to demonstrate leadership, creativity and innovation, and create positive learning environments.

Nominations for the award are submitted by community members, students, parents and colleagues.

There were 129 semifinalists from across the province.
