Infant narrowly escapes injury in gang-related shootings at Samson Cree

RCMP ask for public’s assistance

A 15-month-old infant narrowly escaped being shot during gang-related shootings at Samson Cree Nation, say RCMP.

One person was shot on Saturday and another person was shot on Sunday after a gun was fired indiscriminately towards a residence.

Both victims received treatment for non-life threatening injuries.

Police believed that both shootings were the result of increased tension between rival gangs.

RCMP said they were very concerned for the public’s safety and reminded residents to be careful. Allowing gang members or gang associates into their residence whether or not they were family, increases the risk to themselves and their loved ones.

Maskwacis RCMP and the Wetaskiwin/Maskwacis General Investigation Section have been investigating and requested the assistance of the community to solve the shootings.

Anyone with information can call Maskwacis RCMP at 780-585-3767 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), or at www.tipsubmit.com.
