Innisfail deals with morning flash flood

A fast-moving rain storm with pea-sized hail this morning closed a couple of low-lying roads on the west side of Innisfail due to flooding.

“We do have a few streets that are blocked off by Public Works, precautionary only,” said Colin Whymark, with the town’s protective and disaster services.

“They are flooded. They are passable. But our Public Works Department just decided to block them off and let the storm sewers catch up. They are receding at this point,” Whymark said at about 10:30 a.m.

The storm hit at about 9:30 a.m. It was the town’s first incident of flooding this season.

Whymark said there was no indication of residential flooding.

He said the town was monitoring the storm heading its way and put its fire, Public Works, and Parks and Recreation departments on alert.

The roads were expected to be reopened later this morning.
