An Innisfail man is one of the recipients of the 2019 Alberta Community Justice Awards.

Jean Jacques Beauchamp, volunteer chair and program co-ordinator of the Innisfail Restorative Justice Society, received the award at Government House in Edmonton.

The 28th annual award ceremony on Friday honoured Albertans who make outstanding contributions to crime prevention and restorative justice.

A press release states Beauchamp “has shown leadership through restorative justice education and mentorship on a local and international level.”

Beauchamp’s vocation began in the 1970s, when he was employed with the Canadian military, where he applied restorative justice principles to deal with staff conflicts.

In the 1980s, he worked with Correctional Services Canada, where he created the Peer Meditation program, which has been applied in the public sector as a conflict resolution tool.
