A 33-year-old Innisfail man is facing charges after a short standoff with police.

Innisfail RCMP members were on patrol Wednesday when they saw a van that was confirmed stolen from the University of Calgary that morning.

The investigation continued, and later that day, after a brief standoff, an arrest was made by the Calgary RCMP emergency response team near 52nd Avenue in Innisfail.

Pedestrian and vehicle traffic was delayed for a short time to ensure public safety while the police operation was underway.

The stolen van was recovered and police seized methamphetamine, a prohibited firearm, ammunition, break-in tools, brass knuckles and other weapons.

Tyler James Ratledge is facing 19 charges, including possession of stolen property over $5,000, possession of a prohibited firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, unsafe storage of a firearm and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace.

Ratledge is due in Red Deer provincial court on Monday for a bail hearing.
