Innisfail RCMP say a “lengthy pursuit” through a rural area ended with a suspect’s arrest.

Shortly after midnight on Nov. 19, police were alerted by Sundre RCMP to a suspect vehicle that had evaded arrest.

The vehicle was located in the Dickson Dam area by a patrolling Innisfail RCMP officer.

The vehicle failed to stop for the officer and a pursuit began.

At the Range Road 21 and Township Road 360 intersection, the vehicle crashed through a fence and drove over a steep embankment. The driver then fled on foot.

Officers from Sundre, Olds and Red Deer detachments, along with police dog services, assisted in the search.

The male suspect was not located for more than three hours. Neighbourhood enquiries were conducted and properties were searched.

At 8:45 a.m., the RCMP received a call of a suspicious male near Range Road 15. RCMP located and arrested the suspect, who was released later in the day.

The investigation is ongoing to determine the male’s connection to the vehicle, and the vehicle’s possible connection to an earlier incident in Rocky Mountain House.
