A 16-year-old is facing charges after an alleged break and enter at an Innisfail school.

Innisfail RCMP responded to an alarm at Innisfail Middle School on Monday. Upon arrival, officers discovered the school was broken into and “a significant amount of damage was done,” police said in a statement.

Police claim the suspect attempted to flee on a bicycle and following a short foot chase officers arrested the individual “without incident.”

Damages are estimated to be more than $5,000.

The 16-year-old is charged with breaking and entering, mischief over $5,000, obstructing a peace officer and trespassing.

The teen has been released from police custody to guardians and will appear in Red Deer youth court on Nov. 17.
