Innisfail RCMP investigate fatal collision

An 82-year-old man has died following a collision in central Alberta earlier this month.

At about 2 p.m. on Oct. 2, Innisfail RCMP responded to a serious collision between an SUV and a truck at the intersection of 42 Avenue and Highway 54.

Police say the SUV was travelling southbound on 42 Avenue and the truck was travelling westbound on Highway 54 – the SUV is believed to have stopped, entered into the intersection and then was subsequently struck by the truck.

Emergency Medical Services and STARS air ambulance attended the scene.

The driver of the truck, a 58-year-old woman, suffered minor injuries and was released on scene.

The driver of the SUV, a 75-year-old woman, was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. The 82-year-old male passenger of the SUV was transported via STARS air ambulance to a local area hospital in critical condition. The man died in hospital this past Thursday, as a result of injuries sustained from the collision.

The collision remains under investigation.
