BASHAW — A body has been found in the ruins of a motel that burned over the weekend in central Alberta.

RCMP say investigators found the body in the debris of the Bashaw Motor Inn on Monday, a day after the business was destroyed by fire.

Police say in a news release that the body hasn’t been identified, and that recovery has been delayed due to water that’s been flowing from a damaged main.

Three people were taken to hospital in serious condition after the fire.

Police say one of them has been released while the conditions of the other two remain unchanged.

The release says police are taking the precaution of considering the hotel to be a crime scene until proven otherwise, and that the RCMP Major Crimes Unit has been brought in as part of the investigation.
