The Sylvan Lake RCMP detachment has a new commander.

Staff Sgt. Jay Peden was named to the post Friday. Peden has been an RCMP member for 21 years, working in Valleyview, Olds and Red Deer and this will be his second time serving in Sylvan Lake.

He has also worked with ASPIRE Special Needs Resource Centre board of directors as well as the Central Alberta Sexual Assault Centre board of directors in Red Deer.

Pedan, who grew up in Medicine Hat, said he hopes upon his return to Sylvan Lake he can help build on the crime reduction initiatives that have been ongoing in the community.

“I have been posted in Sylvan Lake previously in my career and it has always been a goal for me to be able to return,” he said in a news release.

“I am excited to have the opportunity to return to Sylvan Lake as it has always been a welcoming and vibrant community.”
