Red Deer Mayor Morris Flewwelling kicks a soccer ball into a pile of no longer wanted items to kick off Kick it to the Curb. The weekend event promotes reusing, recycling and reducing by keeping house hold items out of the landfill. Residents are encouraged to place belonging that they no longer want out on the front curb Saturday and Sunday so that others may choose items that they could put to use. It is the first year the city is hosting the free giveaway program that has been successful in other municipalities .
