The truck that rammed a central Alberta police vehicle twice was also involved in a shooting, police say.

At 5:20 p.m. Sunday, the Killam RCMP and other officers attempted to catch a male suspect when a confrontation occurred that resulted in police firing their weapons.

Before this, the RCMP were pursuing a suspect vehicle on Highway 13 near Hardisty. The vehicle was believed to be the same vehicle involved in an earlier incident with the Killam RCMP.

Several tire deflation devices were used in an attempt to stop the vehicle. The vehicle went into the ditch and a man got out of the vehicle. The confrontation followed.

The man was treated by EMS and taken to an Edmonton hospital in serious condition. The RCMP members involved were not injured. The male was the sole occupant of the truck.
