They were among a number of groups who performed during the 48th annual affair with more than 100 spectators singing carols between performances. The Kiwanis Club of Red Deer has sponsored the event annually for 48 years. The event featured 12 groups of performers and raised $962 for the Red Deer Christmas Bureau, a bin of food for the foodbank, and many gifts for the Christmas Bureau. Kiwanis club president Keith Acheson said the organization contributes about $25,000 annually to community projects that in 2010 included the Loaves and Fishes school lunch project, Terrific Kids school recognition program, student scholarships, and Central Alberta Women’s Emergency Shelter stocking stuffers. The club also remains a key sponsor of the annual Red Deer Performing Arts Festival which runs April 26- 30, 2011.
