Nonprofit agency Alberta Prairies Life Enrichment Training Studio Ltd. and partner agency Central Alberta Brain Injury Society are offering a Life Enrichment Support Worker Program Certificate Course set to start on Oct. 4.
The Life Enrichment Support Worker Program is a 12-week, tuition-based certificate course for those interested in starting a career as a support worker for our vulnerable and disadvantaged citizens.
“Central Alberta has been experiencing a crisis due to a lack of support workers for our most vulnerable and disadvantaged citizens including our elderly/frail, individuals living with special needs, our citizens struggling with addictions, mental health, chronic medical health concerns etc.,” said the agencies in a statement.
APLETS said it has consulted with over 18 agencies in central Alberta confirming the need for support workers and to find out exactly what knowledge, skills, training, and courses the agencies are looking for when they hire support workers. APLETS also heard from many parents, caregivers, guardians, and some of vulnerable citizens on how the lack of support workers negatively impacts their lives.
Applications are now being accepted for the course. Due to COVID-19 health restrictions spaces are limited.
