Lacombe County gets $30,000 provincial grant to boost economic development

Grant is aimed at supporting sustainable economic development and diversification projects

Lacombe County will get $30,000 from the provincial government to boost business supports and economic development.

The Alberta Ministry of Jobs, Economy and Trade provided the funding through the Northern and Regional Economic Development (NRED) program, which grants to Alberta municipalities, non-profit organizations and Indigenous communities for projects that leverage regional resources to build capacity for sustainable economic development and diversification.

“Alberta’s government is committed to creating opportunities for economic growth and diversification in all corners of the province,” said Jobs, Economy and Trade Minister Matt Jones. “We are pleased to support Lacombe County through the NRED program to strengthen economic development in the region by supporting their business attraction, retention and expansion plans.”

County manager Tim Timmons said the funding will allow the municipality to double its economic development investment.

“There is no doubt that any opportunity to leverage our resources with government funding will allow for a more significant local impact,” said Timmons. “We appreciate the ministry’s support of our proposal and look forward to the projects we can activate through this funding.”

The county’s full $30,000 request was approved, with the funds being used to undertake exciting new initiatives, building on the recently completed economic development strategy, ‘Success Grows Here!’

The county’s application sought funding for business supports and to build economic development capacity. The aim is to attract investment by highlighting what the county has to offer, including current and future development opportunities.
