Lacombe Fish and Game Association has hooked a $75,000 commitment from Lacombe County for a new fishing dock.

The association plans to construct an expanded, fully accessible, and pedestrian-friendly fishing dock at Len Thompson Fish Pond. Construction on the $310,000 project is expected to start next February with a June completion date.

The expansion is expected to improve accessibility for the dock, reduce maintenance costs and improve safety.

Len Thompson Fish Pond is already home to the world’s largest fishing lure. The dock project aims to further efforts to establish the site as a feature tourism destination.

Last month, Lacombe city council approved a Community Builder Partnership Grant of $75,000 to help fund the dock.

The province recently approved an $80,000 Community Facility Enhancement Program grant for the dock. The fish and game association is putting in $50,000 and Len Thompson Fishing Lures and the Team Jigger Foundation are each contributing $15,000.
