A group of Lacombe physicians are pleading with residents to get vaccinated to take pressure off the local hospital.

“The COVID pandemic is raging through our community and inundating the Lacombe ER,” says a recent post on the Facebook page and website of Lacombe Medical Associates, which has nine physicians.

“The common factor amongst all of those individuals who are truly sick is being unvaccinated. While the vaccine is not a guarantee that you will not get COVID, being double vaccinated does improve your chances of recovery and lessens your symptoms.

“Our physicians are pleading with you to reconsider your stance on vaccination and get the vaccine ASAP. If not for yourself, then for the beautiful community of Lacombe and surrounding areas.”

As in the rest of Alberta, COVID cases are soaring in Lacombe. On Sept. 9, Alberta Health Services said 20 cases had been identified in Lacombe. On Tuesday, it was reported the city had 64 cases.

The doctors urge any who are vaccine hesitant to educate themselves about the vaccine’s myths and facts and reach out to their pharmacist or health provider if needed. A link is provided to an Alberta Health website: www.alberta.ca/covid19-vaccine-myths-and-facts.aspx.

The doctors listed five locations in Lacombe where residents can get the jab, including: Lacombe IDA Pharmacy, Fisher’s Pharmasave, Shoppers Drug Mart, Loblaw Pharmacy and Rexall.
