Numerous homes were damaged by a “large tornado” in Mountain View County, says Didsbury RCMP.
Just before 2 p.m., police received reports of a tornado near Didsbury that ranged from one to two kilometres wide.
The initial RCMP report indicated that injuries were reported, however a followup report stated that “it does not appear that anyone was injured” as of 3 p.m.
An Alberta Emergency Alert was first issued at 1:49 p.m., stating Environment Canada meteorologists were tracking a severe thunderstorm that is producing a tornado.
“Damaging winds, large hail and locally intense rainfall are also possible. This tornado is located southeast of Didsbury and is moving southeast at 30 km/h,” the alert stated.
“This is a dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation. Tornado warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing tornadoes.”
The alert was then cancelled about an hour later.
