Laurie Blakeman is Liberal candidate in Edmonton for next Alberta election

Alberta Liberal Laurie Blakeman is primed for another election run in her Edmonton-Centre constituency.

EDMONTON — Alberta Liberal Laurie Blakeman is primed for another election run in her Edmonton-Centre constituency.

Blakeman confirms she has been acclaimed as the candidate for the riding she has represented since 1997.

She has become a high-profile advocate for equal rights and has fought to allow students to form gay-straight alliances in schools.

Earlier this month, she was rejected as interim leader of the Liberals after she said she wanted to talk to the fellow-centrist Alberta Party about a co-operation agreement.

Blakeman says she will continue to advocate for uniting progressive parties, but says the Liberal party has always been her home.

The Liberals have five candidates in place, including interim leader David Swann, for the 87 ridings in case of a spring election.
