Lightning storms sparked another six fires in the West Country on Wednesday.

Thirteen fires have been reported in 24 hours in the Rocky Wildfire Management Zone, which extends from Drayton Valley to Sundre and west to Banff and Jasper National Park boundaries.

All of the fires are being held or are under control, says Alberta Environment and Sustainable Resource Development.

A provincewide fire ban remains in effect and is unlikely to be lifted for the weekend.

Campers should be aware no campfires, fire pits or other open flames will be allowed. Portable propane fire pits and gas or propane stoves and barbecues designed for cooking or heating are allowed.
