The outdoor track at the Lindsay Thurber Comprehensive High School has is temporarily closed for surface repairs and maintenance.
General facility use and periods of extreme heat last season have caused significant damage to the running track, the City of Red Deer said Thursday.
This damage includes surface deterioration to a point where user safety has become a concern. The track repairs are weather dependent and expected to be completed by late May.
The athletic field, jumping pits and pole vault pits continue to be operational throughout the repairs.
Residents are encouraged to use the walking track at Servus Arena or the track at the Collicutt Centre. More information on hours of operation and facility admission fees can be found at www.reddeer.ca/recreation.
