A paint night ended up going a long way to help out local charities.

Last November, Tourism Red Deer and the Red Deer and District Chamber of Commerce provided paint supplies for Team Canada players who were quarantined in Red Deer during the team’s selection camp for the World Junior Hockey Championships.

One of the activities was a Bob Ross-inspired paint night and the paintings produced by the players were auctioned off for charity.

The paintings netted $10,660 for local groups and the funds were distributed to six different charities. The Red Deer and District Community Foundation–Youth in Philanthropy program received $2,020, with Youth HQ and KidSport Red Deer also receiving the same donation.

Jayda’s Cupcake Fundraiser for the Central Alberta Humane Society and Special Olympics Red Deer each received $1,010 and Golden Circle got $560.
