Restaurant campaign raises $1,640 for food bank
The Original Joe’s in Red Deer raised $1,640 for the Red Deer Food Bank throughout its Jolly Beer Month campaign.
In December, Original Joe’s locations across the country participated in the campaign to raise money for Canadian food banks.
The campaign as a whole raised $100,000 to support those in need in Western Canada.
For every 18 oz or 22 oz OJ’s Blonde Lager beer purchased, Original Joe’s channelled $3 into participating food banks in those regions. More than 50 locations participated in the campaign.
“Jolly Beer Month was a true local campaign, because the dollars raised at each OJ’s location will stay within those communities through the good work of these food banks,” said Adam Powell, Original Joe’s vice president of operations.
Jolly Beer Month is Original Joe’s most recent campaign to support those facing food insecurity. Between 2014 and 2020, Original Joe’s and Mealshare provided more than 450,000 meals to youth in Western Canada and supported local food banks through the Community Pint program. With Jolly Beer Month’s $100,000 donation, Original Joe’s has raised approximately $700,000 to provide food for Western Canadians.
“We want to thank all our guests who stopped by their neighbourhood Original Joe’s and supported this great cause,” said Powell.
“Thanks to our communities, and all of our hardworking staff, we are making a difference for families struggling to make ends meet.”
To the south of Red Deer, the campaign raised $17,649 for the Calgary Food Bank, which is experiencing double the demand for food support compared to 2019.
“These funds are critical in meeting the need for emergency food support,” said Shawna Ogston, communications and media relations supervisor for the Calgary Food Bank.
“The demand for hampers is at an all-time high, and we don’t see it letting up anytime soon. Campaigns like this ensure we can purchase quality food and continue to serve the hundreds of people that come to us every day.”
