The locally written play Swingers — A Love Story opened Thursday in Red Deer.
Albert Azzara, the local author of CAT’s successful dinner theatre production of The Love (Row) Boat, is opening his new original show at the Nickle Studio, upstairs at Red Deer’s Memorial Centre.
Unlike its title implies, Swingers is described as a sensitive play that follows the lives of two people — the unfortunately named Rick Springfield and Lizzie Borden — over the span of 50 years, from their first meeting on a playground to their subsequent encounters on the same playground.
“Many of you think of me as a wisecracking joker, but I do have a sensitive side,” said Azzara.
“As president of Red Deer Readers’ Theatre Society, I invite you to see Swingers — A Love Story.”
The play has a limited run, and continues at 7 p.m. until Saturday.
Tickets are $15 at the door or by contacting Azzara at 403-342-5895.
