The Town of Blackfalds and Red Deer Regional Catholic Schools have selected a site for a new elementary school in Blackfalds.

With the St. Gregory the Great Catholic School at capacity, RDRCS has spent the past year looking for a location for the new school. Seven locations were looked at in various parts of the community.

The board eventually settled on a four-hectare site in Aspen Lakes West. The town is currently completing negotiations on the acquisition of the land affected.

RDRCS is optimistic that a funding announcement for the new school will come from the province in the spring. The new elementary school in Blackfalds is a top capital plan priority for the school board. The district is hopeful that a “targeted opening of the new school could be a reality as soon as September 2024.”
