A loss prevention officer was stabbed “at least three times” following an altercation at the south Red Deer Walmart, RCMP say.
Officers responded to the scene at 3:56 p.m. on Saturday. The investigation revealed the officer approached an individual who he had seen conceal an item and was advising the individual he has to pay for it.
“When the loss prevention officer went to remove the item from the individual, there was a physical altercation that took place and the loss prevention officer was stabbed at least three times,” said RCMP Cpl. Troy Savinkoff.
The man then fled the Walmart on foot. The investigation into identifying the suspect is ongoing.
The 27-year-old loss prevention officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital.
