A balloon made an unexpected landing on the Riverbend Golf Course on Thursday morning.

“Strange things can happen on the golf course, but this is the strangest I have ever seen,” said Ron Karol, who spotted the balloon in the sky earlier and then on the links when he arrived for his tee time.

Gary Fehr, the owner and operator of Air-ristocrat Balloon Rides, said it wasn’t an emergency.

“We were starting to get a little low on fuel, so as a precaution, we decided to land. When you fly, you want to land where it’s safe and where you’re not going to do any damage.”

Karol said the balloon touched down on the 18th fairway at approximately 8:30 a.m.

The golf course maintenance crew, assisted by a few blasts of hot air, managed to pull the balloon off the course. A trailer arrived shortly later to take the balloon away.

“The customers said it was a bucket list thing,” Karol said of two passengers’ adventure.
