Dozens of skiers and snowboarders from St. Gregory the Great School in Blackfalds were taking some late winter runs down the snowy slopes of the Canyon Ski Resort on Wednesday, in the last week of scheduled school groups at the facility.

With warmer temperatures on the way, Canyon staff are planning to wind down winter operations at the resort on March 25, with the annual Slush Cup competition. The bottom of a ski run will be flooded, and skiers and snowboarders will be judged for who comes through the water in the best form. The fun starts at 1 p.m. Spectators are welcome.

Canyon staff admit all the cold weather this winter presented a “challenge” to operations, but there were still plenty of great skiing days in February and March.
