Face coverings are now optional at Red Deer malls.

As the provincial and city face-covering by-laws expired Thursday, mallgoers are free to choose whether they wear a mask inside common areas.

Parkland Mall said in a statement that food court and common areas are now fully open and safe physical distancing and mask use is encouraged. They noted that different retailers inside the mall may have their own guidelines related to masks.

Bower Place is following all provincial health measures included in Stage 3 of the reopening plan which includes the lifting of the general indoor mask mandate. Officials said retailers will follow directives as part of public health measures and their own policies.
