WHITECOURT — A male prisoner is in an Edmonton hospital with serious injuries following a collision involving a Correctional Services transport van.
The transport vehicle was heading northbound on Highway 43 near Whitecourt, Alta., on Monday morning when it came across a semi tractor trailer parked on the highway shoulder.
The van lost control while trying to avoid the tractor trailer on the icy road and collided with the parked semi.
The van had been occupied by two corrections officers along with the prisoner.
The investigation into the matter continues and a collision analyst has been brought in.
