A 41-year-old man is facing a number of charges after being found unresponsive at a Red Deer intersection earlier this week.

Around 4 a.m. on Monday, Red Deer RCMP officers were patrolling the city’s downtown, when they spotted a stationary vehicle at an intersection, despite the traffic light being green.

Officers found an unresponsive man in the driver’s seat and arrested him. In a subsequent search of the vehicle, police found two firearms, one of which was stolen from a local business in 2021, as well as prohibited ammunition and illicit drugs.

The Airdrie man is facing a number of charges, including two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, driving while prohibited and possession of a controlled substance.

He has been remanded into custody and is set to appear at Red Deer Provincial Court June 14.
