Man arrested near Lacombe after standoff

Weapons found in apartment after man taken into custody

A person was arrested and guns seized at an apartment complex near Lacombe early Wednesday after a report that a man was threatening to hurt himself.

Blackfalds RCMP got a call around 8:15 p.m. that an armed and possibly dangerous man was holed up in an apartment.

Police, with the support of other agencies, contained the area around the apartment complex to ensure public safety.

Residents of the complex were evacuated, and the Calgary Emergency Response Team arrived at around 11 p.m. and began negotiating with the suspect.

Around 12:30 a.m., he was taken into custody without incident.

Police said guns were found in the apartment, but the man was alone and no threats were made.

No charges have been laid, but the investigation continues.
