Man charged after allegedly using handgun to rob Lacombe store

A 19-year-old man has been arrested after an attempted robbery using a handgun occurred at the Lacombe Mohawk.

A 19-year-old man has been arrested after an attempted robbery using a handgun occurred at the Lacombe Mohawk.

At 2:10 a.m. on Thursday, a lone male wearing a bandana over his face and armed with a handgun approached the gas station. The door was electronically locked and the clerk refused to let the man in.

The man allegedly pointed the gun at the clerk through the glass, then fled on foot. He did not get anything from the store.

Lacombe Police Service members responded immediately with the assistance of Red Deer Rural RCMP, who contained the area and brought in a police dog.

A suspect was located at a Lacombe residence within minutes and arrested. Police recovered a weapon and disguise.

The male, who identity has not yet been released, has been charged with attempted robbery, having his face masked with intent to commit an indictable offence, possession of a weapon for a purpose dangerous to public peace, and mischief to property under $5,000.

He has been remanded in custody and will appear in Red Deer court on Tuesday.
