A Red Deer man has been charged with theft and multiple vehicle hit and runs.

On Friday, city RCMP responded to a complaint of what the caller believed to be a thwarted robbery around 9:45 a.m. on April 11 at the Piper Creek IDA on 32nd Street and 49th Avenue.

Witnesses reported seeing a man cover his face with a bandana before approaching the pharmacy’s door. Staff had already locked the door to stop him from entering.

The suspect then got into a blue Dodge Dakota truck and crossed the intersection, striking another vehicle as he entered the parking lot of Northwest Motors. The suspect went on to hit another six parked vehicles.

RCMP located him behind Northwest Motors shortly afterwards and took him into custody, where he remains.

RCMP discovered the truck the suspect had been driving was stolen.

A 38-year-old man was charged with six counts of failure to stop at the scene of an accident, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and theft over $5,000.

He will appear in court Wednesday at 9:30 a.m.
