Red Deer RCMP have charged a 29-year-old man following an officer-involved shooting earlier this week.

On Tuesday, just after 6 p.m., police received a 911 call about a break and enter in progress by an individual known to the homeowner in the area of Maxwell Avenue in Morrisroe.

Police responded and located the male suspect. During a confrontation, an officer fired their service weapon and the suspect was injured.

Officers provided first aid until emergency medical services arrived – he was taken to hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. No RCMP officers were injured.

On Thursday, RCMP announced a 29-year-old Red Deer man is charged with assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, entering a house without lawful excuse and committing an indictable offence, and failing to comply with probation.

He is scheduled to attend Red Deer Provincial Court on Friday.
