A Red Deer man is facing multiple charges after police responded to calls about a domestic disturbance near the Pier on Sylvan Lake last week.

Witnesses reported to Sylvan Lake RCMP that the man was physically assaulting a woman on a boat near the Half Moon Bay boat launch around 9 p.m. on July 30.

Officers say they discovered the 30-year-old man, who was operating the boat, appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. He failed to provide breath samples and was arrested on scene for assault and refusing to provide breath samples.

Further investigation led to seven more charges being laid, including operating an unlicensed pleasure craft, transporting liquor in a vehicle with easy access, impaired operation of a vessel, operating a vessel while disqualified and three counts of failure to comply with an undertaking.

He remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 12.
