Man from Olds arrested, charged with sexual offences on youth

A 34-year-old man from Olds has been arrested and charged for alleged sexual offences on a young girl, RCMP revealed on Tuesday.

On April 21, Olds RCMP received as request to assist Edmonton Police Service is locating a 13-year-old girl.

Olds RCMP officers went to the place where the girl was possibly located, when the door was opened partially by an unknown male.

“This male confirmed that the youth was in the residence, but refused police entry to ensure she was OK,” Olds RCMP said in a media release.

“Fearing for the youth’s safety, officers detained the male and entered the residence. Officers located the youth hiding under a stairway.”

The man has been charged with sexual assault, sexual interference, luring a child, child abduction, unsafe storage of firearms and possession of a firearm at an unauthorized place.

On April 22, Olds RCMP completed a search warrant for the residence where the youth was located. Evidence was located which supports these charges, police claim. On April 30, Olds RCMP executed a second search warrant at the residence, which resulted in the two firearms offences.

The man appeared on April 22 for his first bail hearing and was remanded into custody. But on May 1, at his subsequent appearance, he was released with conditions to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Didsbury on May 15.
