Man sentenced for Edson triple murder

EDMONTON — An Alberta man who fatally shot three people has been sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 30 years.

In April, a jury convicted Mickell Bailey, who is 21, of three counts of second-degree murder in the deaths of a woman, her partner and her daughter.

The bodies of Roxanne Berube, Daniel Miller and 16-year-old Jazmine Lyon were found in their home near Edson in November 2015.

RCMP found Bailey days later.

He was shot in the head by Mounties after he walked out of a home carrying a rifle and fired at two officers.

Court heard that Bailey wanted to rob Berube in an attempt to help his uncle get out of debt.

“I think it was a very fair sentence, it was very well reasoned, very succinct,” Crown prosecutor Orest Yereniuk said Thursday outside court.

“It was a good day for justice in Alberta.”

Bailey’s lawyer said it is not clear whether his client will appeal his convictions and sentence.

Following the shooting, RCMP said they found more than 30 firearms at the property, some of them loaded.
