A Red Deer man accused of firing a shot in a Blackfalds motel during an attempted robbery is expected to resolve his case.

Blackfalds RCMP said they went to the Blackfalds Motor Inn at about 12:40 a.m. on Nov. 1, after getting a report that a man had fired a gun during a robbery attempt in the bar.

Patrons grabbed and held the suspect until police arrived.

“It was determined that one shot appears to have been fired, but not towards any person,” allege police. “Another shot from the gun was discharged during a struggle for the gun.

“Nobody in the bar was injured from either of the gunshots.”

Police arrested a suspect at the scene.

Ryan Allan Bell, 27, of Red Deer, is facing 14 charges, including recklessly discharging a firearm, careless use of a firearm and using a firearm in the commission of an offence.

Bell appeared in Red Deer provincial court on Wednesday through a closed-circuit video link with the Edmonton Remand Centre.

A lawyer acting on his behalf told the judge the case is expected to be resolved when it returns to court on March 11.
