Red Deer RCMP have taken a man into custody following a stabbing incident early Monday morning.

At about 4:30 a.m., police were called to a residence on Hermary Street in the Highland Green neighbourhood after a person was cut on the arm and the forehead.

As well, a woman suffered a minor injury to her hand when she tried to intervene.

The suspect left the residence on foot and a short time later, a patrolling officer spotted him in Riverside Meadows, where he was arrested.

The victims were taken to hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect remains in custody and RCMP said they would issue further updates as the investigation progresses.
