Sentence will be pronounced today for an Innisfail man who pleaded guilty earlier to causing the crash that killed four people and injured another.
The five victims, all Philippines citizens employed at an Edmonton hotel, were southbound on Hwy 2 at about 11:30 p.m. on March 4, 2012.
They were near Innisfail when their vehicle crashed head-on with another SUV that was heading north in the southbound lane, driven by Tyler James Stevens, who had just moved to Innisfail from Cochrane.
Stevens, just days short of his 30th birthday, was charged with 20 criminal code offences, including four counts of criminal negligence causing death and one count of criminal negligence causing injury, the offences to which he has pleaded guilty.
Additional charges including five counts of refusing to provide a breath sample in relation to a collision, five counts of impaired driving, four counts of impaired driving causing death and one count of impaired driving causing injury.
Crown prosecutor Anders Quist and defence counsel Ian Savage are to address sentencing before Judge Bill Andreasson in Red Deer provincial court this afternoon.
